Security & data
What leaves your phone, and what never does
The short answer
Roosta has no accounts and no servers of its own. Your alarms, streak and wake history live on your device. Camera frames and voice recordings are processed on-device and never stored or transmitted. The only things that leave are anonymous product analytics, which you can switch off, and subscription checks with your app store.
Never leaves the device
Camera frames
Analysed on-device and discarded in the same instant. Never written to disk, never uploaded.
Voice recordings
Speech recognition runs on-device for voice missions. No audio is retained.
Your alarms and schedules
Times, repeat days, sounds and mission settings stay in the app’s local storage.
Wake history and streaks
Every wake event stays on your device. Streaks are recomputed locally from it.
Does leave the device
Anonymous product analytics
Which screens and missions are used, and whether a mission was completed. No identifiers, and switchable off in Settings.
Subscription status
Checked with the App Store or Google Play so Premium works. Handled by the platform; we never see a payment method.
That is the complete list. There is no third category. If something else ever needs to leave the device, it will be documented here before it ships.
How to verify it
Do not take our word for it
Privacy claims are cheap. This one is unusually easy to check yourself, which is the main reason we make it in this form.
- 1Put your phone in airplane mode and turn off Wi-Fi.
- 2Set an alarm for two minutes from now with a camera mission — Object Hunt is the quickest.
- 3Let it ring and complete the mission.
- 4It works. On-device recognition is the only way that is possible with no connection, and a frame that is never uploaded is a frame that cannot be uploaded later either.
You can also check the store listing's data-safety section, which is filed by us and reviewed by the platform. Detail on the mechanism is on the camera missions page, and the formal terms are in the Privacy Policy.
Reporting a vulnerability
If you find a security issue, email privacy@roosta.app with enough detail to reproduce it. We will acknowledge within three working days and keep you updated until it is resolved. We will not take legal action against anyone reporting a genuine issue in good faith, and we are happy to credit you when it is fixed.
FAQ
Privacy and data questions
Does Roosta store photos from camera missions?
No. Camera frames are analysed on your device and discarded immediately. Nothing is written to storage, nothing enters your photo library, and nothing is transmitted. The missions keep working with the network off, which is how you can verify it.
Does Roosta record audio?
Only during voice missions, and only on the device. The Affirmation and Bible verse missions use on-device speech recognition to check you said the line. No audio is stored and none is uploaded.
Do I need an account?
No. Roosta has no accounts, no sign-in and no password. There is no email address to breach and no profile to sell, because neither exists.
What does Roosta send off the device?
Anonymous product analytics — which features are used and whether missions are completed — and subscription checks with the App Store or Google Play. No camera frames, no audio, no location, and no personal identifiers.
Can I opt out of analytics?
Yes, from Settings inside the app. Turning it off has no effect on how the alarm or any mission works, because nothing on the alarm path depends on it.
Where is my data stored?
Your alarms, settings, streak and wake history are stored on your device. Roosta has no servers of its own holding user data, so there is no central database of anybody’s wake-up times.
Set one alarm you actually have to earn.
Pick a mission tonight. Tomorrow morning it will not let you dismiss it half asleep — and it will still let you out if you genuinely need to be somewhere.
