What actually costs money
The free tier covers the core promise: a reliable alarm you cannot dismiss half asleep. Premium pays for the missions that are expensive to build and run — the six camera missions using on-device vision — and for the app existing at all without advertising.
The honest comparison
Why there are no ads on the free tier
The largest app in this category runs advertising in its free tier, and it is the single most common complaint in its reviews. The problem is not that ads exist — it is where they sit. An advert between a person and a silent alarm, at the exact moment they are least able to tolerate friction they did not choose, is a bad trade for everyone.
It is also a reliability problem. An ad has to load, which means the dismiss path needs a network. Roosta's alarm path never touches the network, and it could not make that promise while showing ads.
If price is your main concern, that is a completely reasonable position, and there are free alarm apps with no subscription at all. We say so plainly on our alternatives page, including the ones that beat us on cost.

Pricing questions
Is Roosta free?
Yes. The free tier includes unlimited alarms, all 21 alarm sounds, streaks, and a set of cognitive and physical missions. It has no advertising and no time limit. Roosta Premium is optional and unlocks the full mission catalog.
Does Roosta have ads?
No, on any plan. Advertising in a free alarm tier is the most-complained-about pattern in this category, and an ad standing between a person and a silent alarm at 6am is a genuinely bad experience. Roosta is funded by Premium subscriptions instead.
How long is the free trial?
Roosta Premium includes a 3-day free trial. You can cancel during the trial from your App Store or Google Play subscription settings and you will not be charged.
What happens to my alarms if I cancel Premium?
Your alarms keep working. Any alarm using a Premium-only mission falls back to a free mission rather than failing to ring. An alarm that silently stops working because a subscription lapsed would be an unacceptable failure.
Do I need an account?
No. Roosta does not require an account, an email address or a sign-in. Your alarms and wake history live on your device.
Can I use Roosta on more than one device?
Subscriptions follow your App Store or Google Play account, so Premium works on the devices signed in to that account on the same platform. Wake history is stored per-device.
